Data protection and privacy

 What best defines data?

Data is defined as facts or figures, or information that's stored in or used by a computer. An example of data is information collected for a research paper.

What is data protection ?

Data protection and privacy are closely related concepts that focus on safeguarding individuals' personal information and ensuring that it is handled responsibly, securely, and in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. Here's a breakdown of each:

Data Protection: Data protection refers to the measures and practices put in place to

1 Safeguard personal data from unauthorized access,
2 Use,
3 Disclosure,
4 Alteration, or
5 Destruction. This includes both technical measures, such as encryption and access controls, and organizational measures, such as policies and procedures for data handling and security.

The goal of data protection is to ensure that personal data is processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently while protecting individuals' rights and freedoms.

What is privacy data?

Data privacy generally means the ability of a person to determine for themselves when, how, and to what extent personal information about them is shared with or communicated to others. This personal information can be one's name, location, contact information, or online or real-world behavior.

Privacy: Privacy, on the other hand, is a broader concept that encompasses individuals' rights to control their personal information and to keep it private.  Privacy is often considered a fundamental human right and is enshrined in various laws, constitutions, and international agreements.

In essence, data protection focuses on the technical and organizational measures to safeguard personal data, while privacy emphasizes the broader rights and principles related to individuals' control over their personal information. Together, data protection and privacy form the foundation for responsible and ethical handling of personal data in both the public and private sectors.
